HP and Compaq Notebook Forums

Hi, I have recently bought a second hand Z7000 that came with no wireless card fitted. I've bought a HP broadcom 54g max performance 802.11g wirless card but when I fitted it it comes up with the error "104-unsupported wireless device detected system halted remove device and restart" I then have to remove it to get the laptop to boot up. I started out with bios version F34 and have tried the different bios updates, F35 and F38 but still get the same error when I fit it, I'm currently on the F38 version. Can anyone help me or do I need to get a different card and if so which one? It's driving me mad. Any help appreciated.

You have to get a different card. See what part # http://partsurfer.hp.com recommends for your model, or what the HP service guide recommends, and search for that part # on eBay.

HP claims that the FCC makes them restrict their notebooks to specific cards they test but everyone else ignores this supposed rule.

Some people have figured out how to hack the BIOS to get around this. Finding an agreeable card would be safer.
